Strategic Skills Initiative

The Strategic Skills Initiative is Indiana's strategy to identify and alleviate job and skill shortages. For Economic Growth Region 5, two solutions were identified and developed to create jobs and increase income. Both of these solutions offer scholarships for training in fields of either Allied Health or Vital Industries. Learn more (PDF)

Vital Industries Scholarship

For Economic Growth Region 5, one of the identified solutions is to offer scholarships/training in order to increase job opportunities in vital industries such as manufacturing, logistics and automotive industries.

Over a two-year period, EGR 5 will offer 60 scholarships to obtain a Technical Certificate and/or nationally recognized certification at Ivy Tech Community College in the areas of welding and machine operator. The scholarship will include tuition, book fees and required supplies.

We are no longer accepting applications for this initiatives at this time. All 60 scholarships have been awarded.

Allied Health Scholarship

For Economic Growth Region 5, one of the identified solutions is to offer scholarships for training in the following categories: Respiratory Therapist, Polysomnography Technician, Radiologic Technologist, Ultrasound Technologist and Surgical Technologist.

Over a two-year period, EGR 5 will offer 99 scholarships to individuals who are accepted into the programs cited above. Training is offered through Ivy Tech Community College and area hospitals. The scholarship will include tuition, book fees and required supplies.
